Carl Ekborg is the president and owner of American Lazer Services, Inc. He grew up in Gloucester, graduating from Gloucester High. He attended Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Ariz., for two years, then transferred to Salem State where he received a Bachelor’s of Science in Finance. In 1988. He worked for a Salem-based copier company. While working there, in 1991 he started a toner remanufacturing company under the business name American Lazer Cartridge Company. He ran the business in the basement and garage of his home in Beverly. In July 1993 he left the copier company to pursue the business fulltime. He added repair of laser printers to the business and later returned to providing office equipment repair, supplies and service. American Lazer moved to the front of 140 Elliott Street in Beverly in September, 1997 and to larger space within the building in October 2000. In July, 2010, American Lazer moved into its present location at 25 Cox Court in Beverly, doubling its space. Carl has lived in Beverly since 1989 with three daughters who attend local schools.
Bob Pearl grew up in Peabody, Massachusetts. He graduated from Merrimac College in 1979. He started working as a copier salesman. Bob owned his own copier sales and repair business for 17 years. He has over 30 years of experience in the copier sales and repair business. Bob joined forces with American Lazer Services in 2002 and has been one of the most valued additions to the American Lazer team.
Kara McGarigal grew up in Duxbury, Massachusetts and has traveled and lived in many states around the country. Kara moved to Beverly, Massachusetts, in 2002. Kara met Carl through their children’s preschool. Kara was looking for part-time work and American Lazer was looking for help with projects around the office. As Kara’s hours became more permanent she moved into the role as office manager at American. American Lazer has found a way to utilize Kara’s organizational skills and phone experience and she now handles many aspects of the day-to-day business. Kara answers the phones, handles all shipping and receiving, and creates sales proposals and documentation. She is the “go-to” person when a technician is looking to track down a hard-to-find part or when dealing with vendors to get the best price possible. Kara is also responsible for maintaining our in-stock machines, parts, and supply inventories and for keeping track of the numerous customer service contracts and agreements. Kara has been part of the American Lazer team since January 2005.
Fran Melanaphy is originally from Lynn, Massachusetts. She now resides in Peabody, Massachusetts with her husband, Butch. She began working at American Lazer in August, 2003 and is responsible for our accounts payable department. She brings with her over twenty years of experience in payroll and accounting practices.
Rick Hiltunen began his career working at Brunelle Office Equipment in Salem, Massachusetts in 1969 as an apprentice technician. In 1972 he accepted a position at IBM Corporation in the office products division for two years servicing typewriters and dictation equipment. In 1974 he accepted a position as a senior technician at Typewriter Specialists in Lynn, Massachusetts, where he remained until 1977 when he left to form a partnership with Richard K. Hering as North Shore Business Machines. In 1979 this business was merged into what became Essex Office Associates, Inc. in Salem, Massachusetts. In 1986 Rick left Essex Office Associates to form One Call Office Machine Service where he continued to provide service in the greater North Shore area. In 1999 due to a medical condition, he was unable to continue this service on a sustained basis, which led him to refer his customers to contact American Lazer Services for their ongoing service needs. After a lengthy recovery, Rick returned as an employee at American Lazer Services where you will find him today.
Rick has been married to Christine for the past 23 years. They have four children and six grandchildren.
Cindi Fitzgerald grew up in Marblehead, Massachusetts. She now resides in Lynn, Massachusetts with her husband, Mike. Cindi attended Marian Court College where she earned an Associate’s Degree in Accounting. She began working at American Lazer in December of 2011. She is the main contact person for our customers and is responsible for handling incoming customer calls, dispatching technicians, processing invoices and accounts receivables. She also works with our vendors on a regular basis and handles other customer queries and questions as needed.
Christopher Day grew up in Beverly, Massachusetts and has resided in Peabody for the last 10 years. He attended North Shore Technical High School and majored for four years in Information Systems Technology where he graduated in 2006. Chris is currently attending Salem State College where he is working towards his bachelor’s degree in business administration. Chris has over 10 years of IT and Networking experience and completed many large scale network migrations such as an interstate migration for National DCP. He is well versed in many of the different aspects of IT field, including networking design and installation, server installation and migrations, as well as PC and MAC troubleshooting, installations, and upgrades. He has a large knowledge base of server virtualization, many different software vendors.
John started in the office equipment industry in 1996, and has been involved in a variety of roles and places an emphasis on customer service for his customers. Within the last year John has joined the American Lazer team and is enjoying the constantly growing company and relationships within. He grew up in Woburn where he currently resides with his family. John is a father of three children, one son and two daughters. When not spending time with family John enjoys all sports and is always trying to correct his frustrating golf game.
Grew up in Beverly, Graduated Emerson College 1978, Moved to Gloucester, MA and lives there today After 20 years cooking in local restaurants at the urging of his brother Matt Frank went into business equipment sales for Northern Business Machines where he achieved many salesman of the month awards and five time salesman of the year In 2016 went to work for GSG Financial in NYC as a leasing rep. GSG was sold in early 2017 and Frank join American Lazer Service and the rest is history
Frank enjoys his family (five grown children and wife Kris, shopping for food at the local farms, Cooking, playing golf and walking the beach with his dog Chloe
Mike McConnell grew up Orrville, Ohio and working at Smucker’s Jelly, Bearfoot Rubber Corporation, then Sharnet Plastic Corporation . Relocated to Ward Hill, Massachusetts with Sharnet Plastic Corporation Division of Rapid Processing as plant manager in 1982 , shortly afterwards became plant manager of both Sharnet & Rapid . In 1990 I accepted a job in the electronics business as Plant Manager of SCI in Manchester . In 1992 I joined United Business Machines out of Manchester as a sales rep of copies, printers & fax machines moving to Century Copier Specialists in 2008 as sales manager . We were purchased by American Lazer Service / Copier Connection in 2019 ! Mike lives in Hampstead, New Hampstead with his wife Jo-Anna of forty nine years. We have three adult children, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren !
Paul began his office equipment career in 1981 as a shipper and receiver at Paul B. Williams in Andover. In 1983 he went to work for Allied Business Products as a service technician. While working there he moved into copier sales. In 1990 Paul started a company with Barry Coultier called Century Copier Specialist Inc.. Paul was the president of Century Copier Specialists till American Lazer Services acquired the business in March of 2019. Paul remains an important member of the team as he manages the Kingston office. Paul lives in Plaistow N.H. with his wife Ann.
